Sparring Program

So you wanna get punched in the face…

The Corner’s sparring program is for athletes who want to take their boxing knowledge and experience to the next level. It is NOT for individuals who want to test how tough they are.

It takes another level of commitment to your training and taking care of yourself to be a part of our sparring program.

Who it is for

  • Athletes who listen to coaching staff.

  • All Access Members of The Corner. If accepted - sparring program will be added to your monthly dues.

  • Those who have been training 3-4 days a week for 2-3 months.

  • Have a firm grasp of fundamentals of defense and offense.

  • Balanced footwork.

  • Athletes who want to learn.

Who it is not for

  • Those who want to see how tough they are.

  • Those who train less than twice a week.

  • Those who have boxed less than a 2 months at the Corner.

  • Non-members of the club.

What to expect

  • Defensive Drilling - lots of it, over and over again.

  • A greater understanding of the drills and techniques we use in everyday classes.

  • It not as easy as you think it is to land a clean jab.

  • To gain more humility than you ever thought you could.

  • To learn that breathing is harder than you think.

  • Nothing is better than landing a good body shot.

  • Nothing is worse than taking a good body shot.

  • You may cry or experience emotions that you weren’t expecting.

Tips for success

  • Basics, master them and practice them.

  • Listen to your coach.

  • Show up and keep showing up. It’s the only way to get better

  • Train on your own. Most successful athletes put in the time.

  • Adequate sleep and hydration.

  • Leave your ego at the door.

  • Add neck strength training to your workouts.

Sparring adds another level of safety requirements and demands. Communicating with your coaches if you are experiencing light headedness, headaches, dizziness, or any other concerns during sparring or after. Protecting yourself at all times starts with you advocating for yourself.

If you are accepted into the program, you will need to register with USA Boxing as an athlete, complete a physical with your doctor, and turn all paperwork to complete your registration in to USA Boxing. Once you receive your USA Boxing Passbook and turn it in to Coach Carrie you may participate in the program. You must be on an all access membership to participate. Please note, the sparring program is an additional $75 fee added on to your monthly membership.
